Easter is a time of indulgence, but unfortunately, all those chocolates and hot cross buns can wreak havoc on your oral health. These sweet treats are high in sugar content, which can lead to tooth decay as the bacteria in our mouth produce acids that attack the outer layer of our tooth enamel.
But don’t worry, Harley Dental is here to help you enjoy your Easter treats without compromising your dental health. Follow our four tips below to maintain your egg-cellent teeth:
- Limit Your Snacking: To minimize the amount of time your teeth are exposed to sugar and acids, restrict sugary treats to mealtimes rather than snacking throughout the day.
- Drink Water: Water is your smile’s best friend. After enjoying your sugary treats, drink water to rinse away any leftover food particles and sugars. This helps dilute the acids produced by bacteria in your mouth.
- Wait Before Brushing: Your tooth enamel is vulnerable to acid attacks, so wait at least 30 minutes after eating sugary treats before brushing your teeth. This gives your saliva enough time to neutralize the acids and re-harden your tooth enamel. In the meantime, drink water.
- Maintain Good Oral Hygiene: Keep up your regular oral health routine, including brushing twice a day and flossing once a day, even during the Easter holiday.
