Harley Day Surgery

Built to the latest day hospital standards and infection control guidelines, Harley Day Surgery is a state-of-the-art day surgery facility for patients who require dental treatment under conscious, intravenous sedation (IV Sedation).

IV Sedation is suitable and safe for most people and is effective for any dental procedure you may undergo, placing you in a relaxed and sleep-like state whilst remaining conscious.

At Harley Day Surgery, IV Sedation is carried out with our highly skilled and compassionate team of clinical experts, nurses and anaesthetists. They work in a collaborative fashion to ensure you undergo care and support in a comfortable and pain-free environment.

Harley Day Surgery is in the interim of achieving its license as a Day Hospital from the Federal Government, and has been certified against the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHS). Harley Day Surgery is also a member of the Day Hospital Australia Association.

What to Expect

Pre-Admission

Once your procedure is scheduled, you will be given an information pack to prepare you for your procedure. Please take the time to read the documentation and complete all forms prior to your arrival on the day of your procedure.

Day of Procedure

On arrival at Harley Dental, please report to the main reception. Our team will welcome you, confirm your details, ensure all relevant paperwork is completed as well as accept payment for any out-of-pocket expenses before you meet with our registered nurse. The nurse will prepare you for your procedure together with our anaesthetist.

Fasting

You must not eat or drink anything for 6 hours prior to your appointment, unless otherwise advised by your anaesthetist. This includes chewing gum, ice, water and sweets. If you do eat or drink within 6 hours prior to your appointment, your surgery will have to be rescheduled and you may be eligible to pay a cancellation fee.

Anaesthetic

Before your procedure you will have a private consultation with the anaesthetist to assess your suitability and gain consent. You will be attended to by an anaesthetist who will administer the sedative agents intermittently and safely to make you feel relaxed and sleepy. You will be constantly monitored by the anaesthetist throughout your treatment.

Carer

For your safety, you must have a responsible adult accompany you home via private vehicle or taxi. Your carer must come in and collect you from Harley Day Surgery.  If you do not have a designated carer, then your surgery may be rescheduled. Please speak to us about any concerns you may have regarding organising a carer.

Recovery & Discharge

After your procedure, you will be moved to our best-practice Recovery Area where a registered nurse will monitor your recovery from the anaesthesia and offer you light refreshments. When you are ready, you will be given post-operative instructions and may then be taken home accompanied by a responsible adult. Your carer must come in and collect you from Harley Day Surgery.
